Volunteer

Help turn your own community experience into positive change.

Volunteers play a vital role in Veera’s work. By listening to local people, gathering feedback, and sharing community experiences, our volunteer help ensure services are shaped by the people who use them.

Whether you have a few hours each month or would like to take on a more active role, there are flexible opportunities to get involved.

What do Veera Volunteers do?

Our volunteers support a range of activities, including:

Gathering feedback from local people

Supporting community events & outreach activities

Talking to people about their experiences

Helping with surveys and engagement projects

Supporting research and community insight work

Championing the voices of local communities

No previous experience is needed. Full training and ongoing support are provided.

Our volunteer roles

We offer a variety of volunteering roles, with opportunities available in person, online, or as part of specific projects.

Enter and View

An Enter and View volunteer listens to people’s experiences of health and care services. This includes people living in residential homes, to understand what is working well and what can be improved. They are individuals who are authorised by Healthwatch Kirklees or Healthwatch Calderdale to participate in planned Enter and View activities. Volunteers are trained to deal with sensitive situations and confidential information appropriately. They will not interfere with service delivery at the service undergoing the visit.

Community Engagement & Outreach

As a Community Engagement & Outreach Volunteer, you help us learn what people think about health and social care in Kirklees/Calderdale. This involves chatting with friends, family, and colleagues about services like GPs, dentists, hospitals, pharmacies, and opticians. We may also ask for your own views on specific topics. As well as asking for your help spreading the word about Healthwatch at events or in your community.

Maternity & Neonatal Champion

Help improve maternity and neonatal services by listening to experiences of parents, birthing people, and families across Calderdale, Kirklees, and Wakefield. As a volunteer champion, you’ll help gather feedback, raise awareness of opportunities to get involved, and make sure local voices are heard. Your support will help shape better, more inclusive maternity and neonatal care for everyone.

Be part of positive change

If you are passionate about improving services and making sure people voices are heard, we’d lover to hear from you.
